Music, Life and Stuff: "Back to the Music with Mr. Unavailable"

I'm back with a brand new episode of "Music, Life and Stuff". This is the segment called "Back to the Music" where I go back in time and analyze an old song of mine, (and even rhyme!:)... with the hopes of making you smile and to help with your own creative journey, whether you're a songwriter or not (because we are ALL creative).

This week I am talking about a song from my EP, (The Difference), called "Mr. Unavailable."

I told you a few weeks ago how I went back and listened to a bunch of old songs and realized how much I love them? Well this one is no exception. Super catchy and fun.

Sure there are things I'd change, but again, I love honoring the girl who wrote it, and paying homage to that time in my life. It's like going back and looking at snapshots of my life.

Only better.

So here it is: A snapshot of my life circa 2006.

If you want to listen to only the song, that's available for you as well. Right here. (but then you'll miss the valuable lesson:)

Lyrics:
I have a problem that I can’t solve
Every time I even try my head just starts to hurt
I need some attention, a distraction you could say
And it always takes the same shape

I see you across the crowded room
I make my way towards my fate
My heart starts racing, I should walk the other way
But you smile at me and it’s too late

Chorus:
Mr. Unavailable you’re too much
Yes, I will try to get you I’ll just use my magic touch
I want to change, change the way you think about your love
Oh no. here I go again.

Oooh yeah, I want you, but I don’t know you
I don’t know you yet I dream about our first kiss
I start to realize that it’s this feeling, yeah it’s the feeling
It isn’t you, that I chase (read: if it wasn’t you, it’d be someone else;)

Chorus:
Mr. Unavailable you’re too much
Yes, I will try to get you I’ll just use my magic touch
I want to change, change the way you think about your love
Oh no. here I go again.

Bridge:
You’re just a stranger with a name
I only want you for the chase
I see you across the crowded room
But I can’t walk away

Oooh, what is happening?
You want me, but you don’t want me and I’m getting sick of this game
I’ll never have you, I wouldn’t want you if I could
Cuz you do more harm than do good.

Do this now: leave a comment below... what did you learn from my "youthful mistakes"? What did you like about the song? Or not like? Take one thing you learned and go implement it in a new song, or fix up an old one.

Not a songwriter? Think about patterns in your life that you notice and see if you can think about it as a lesson you haven't learned yet. We tend to beat ourselves up over things like that, and looking at it through the lens of it being a part of our growth, allows us to be more compassionate with ourselves.

Did you like this episode of "Back to Music"? You know I did! If you did, then please share it with all your friends!

If you're not yet on my mailing list, go join hundreds of others in the community talking about music, life, and stuff. The more the merrier folks and we need everyone we can get.
