We ALL are Taylor Swift

I was watching Taylor Swift’s live show on Apple Music (even after seeing the show live in Philly this past summer). Did you catch it?

I just love her and I ain’t ashamed to admit it. At the show I was at there were 50,000 people. At the live event for Apple Music she kept repeating that there were 76,000 people.

Every time she said that number, I got chills in my body, and tears welled in my eyes. I love feeling the energy that everyone has for her and I get overwhelmed.. because she's a reminder that dreams come true.

As I thought about the phenomena that is Tay Tay, a notion/ saying/ mantra popped into my head. and that is that “what you see in others is a reflection of what you see in yourself”.

That goes for both good and bad things. If you are looking at someone and hating that they complain a lot, chances are it’s something you see in yourself and YOU yourself are a complainer.

But it goes for the people you admire as well. You see someone who is a beacon of light, who is all love, and you are drawn to them because you see that in yourself as well. You see yourself as the beacon of light, that you too are all love. It’s something you might not even realize (until now).

And so when I thought about 76,000 people loving Taylor Swift, (and let’s face it in reality it's millions at this point) , it’s because we all see ourselves in her. We all see in ourselves the glowing radiance, kindness, pure LOVE that she is, that she gives, and we know in our heart of hearts that we can do what she’s doing.

Maybe not on a stage before 76,000 people, playing guitar tied to a moving walkway that hovers above air, but in our corner of the universe, with our own little fan clubs that consist of our family and our 5 closest friend and whoever else.

The other thing is that each of us Tay Tay fans, see in her something different. Because it's a reflection of who we are.

Our experience of her is related directly to our relationship with ourselves.

I’m guessing some of you are saying, you don’t like Taylor. (Who ARE you guys?) There’s two things I can say to that.

1. The thing you don’t like about her is the same thing you don’t like about yourself.

2. You have your own Taylor Swift, whether it’s Gene Simmons from Kiss, or Harry Potter, or your grandma...it's someone who inspires you, makes you want to be the best version of yourself, and reflects that person back to you.

The thought came back to me very clearly. “We are ALL Taylor Swift” (insert your inspiration here). WE all have that capability.

We all see in her what we have in ourselves. We don't have to be on a HUGE stage to be that person. Our life is the only stage we need and to be frank, it’s the only one we got. Right here, right now.

It’s beautiful that so many of us see ourselves in her. That so many of us are inspired to be that version of ourselves whether we know it or not. (Again, insert YOUR inspiration here;)

She had a dream, and she made it HAPPEN. And not only that, she is so generous with her stage. She shares it with EVERYONE, from Ricky Martin to Alanis Morissette! (so random!) But that’s who she is and it’s what she does. And we all see ourselves in that.

So how can we be that person today? That’s the question that it boils down to. Today, right now, here, and now. Not tomorrow. (well yes tomorrow too but it arrives as today:)

Commitment to practice, consistently.

Oh, the lessons I learn from Tay Tay. They just keep coming and coming.

Hope you feel inspired to start right now. What does it look like for you? What are you so drawn to in the people you admire and... can you see that you have it in yourself? You DO!

It’s a beautiful reminder to look inside yourself at the qualities you have and want to bring forth. Bring them forth! Let’s all do it. And let’s all support each other in doing so.

Yours always in Music and Love,
Tay Tay (Ahem, I mean,  Dana)
